A New Discovery
This Picture Is one of my favorites, I feel like it is very technically sound piece as it incorporates many artistic foundations. such as the rule of thirds, the focal point (the two figurines in focus) being in the bottom left third, the phone being upper left and middle, and negative space in the upper right part of the picture.. While there are no actual leading lines, the way the figurines are positioned draws attention to the phone in the background of the picture which leads your eyes to the dark and contrasting negative space giving your eyes a place to rest. It also has a good exposure as nothing in the picture has been compromised but its clear and coherent all the way through. Lastly on the technical side it has a good range of color with the contrasts of cool and warm from the figurines and the phone. I took this picture using a macro lens with Not only is this picture very technically sound but it also tells a story of hope but despair at the same time as the bright colors create a sense of cheer and warmth while the size of the phone in relation to the figurines suggests that the phone is a looming and threatening presence to their world. For me it evokes a sense of nostalgia and represents a transition from toys and imagination and wanderlust of the world to the reliance on technology that controls my life and our society today.
Fun With Fire
I chose this piece because the focal point, the dark ghostly figure, grabs your attention immediately because of the high contrast it has with its white background. While the sparks emanating from the swirl creat leading lines that allow the eye to travel throughout the picture. This picture has a mysterious unknown feel to it that I love. Technically this piece also took a lot of work. I set up a camera on a tripod with a 15" shutter speed and had a friend spin a piece of steel wool which was on fire to create the light and sparking effect that you see.
Self Reflection
This picture was my double exposure. Compositionally it uses the rule of thirds to create an offset in the Image making it a more dynamic picture. For this picture I used dramatic lighting and a straight forward angle in order to make a foreboding feeling and also to emulate old time photo portraits while using new techniques like double exposure to enhance the image.
The Boardwalk
This photo was taken for the line and shape project at the beginning of the year. Compositionally it uses leading lines and negative space to create depth. Within the picture. I took this photo from down and to the left view. Instead of straight on so that while you can still see the sign the point of view makes it a more interesting photo.
A Polite Conversation
I this photo using a macro lens and a large aperture, to compensate for the amount of light being let in i used a shutter speed of 1/200 making for a crisper photo. I also set the white balance to make the picture have a redish yellow hue so the picture felt warm and cheery, capturing the feeling of the interaction between the figures. The picture uses rule of thirds as the focused part is in the lower third of the picture while the upper two thirds contain blurred people and background.

Slow Light
Compositionally this picture has contrast between the black background and the bright colorful streak of light which acts as a leading line that brings your eyes throughout the image. To create it I used a 6" shutter speed at night to capture the motion of my friend running with a light. I had him run from left back to right front in order to not only fill the image but also to create a sense of depth within the image .
