In " A New Discovery" I used a shallow Depth of field To create this I used an f-stop of 2.8 creating a sense of depth larger than was actually present. making the picture more life like and realistic giving it a more dynamic and evoking composition. Because these were pictures taken in a studio with bright fluorescent lights i used a warm fluorescent white balance and an Iso of 200 in order to compensate for the large amounts of light being taken in by the the large opening in the camera due to the shallow f-stop. for the seascape picture I chose a large depth of field using an f-stop of 22 to capture the entire picture in focus. because it was a bright sunny day I set my white balance to sunny and the iso to 200. overall a picture with a shallow depth of field is better because it creates a dynamic contrast between the focal point and the rest of the picture. While a large depth of field is ideal for vast landscapes and shots where the entire image is the focal point each part of it not more important than the last.

The Light source in this Picture is coming from the upper right front of the picture allowing there to be lighting of both the foreground and the background. The model is walking out of line with the rest of the soldiers while sticking his tongue out. This portrays a sense of rebellion to the war which was highly protested throughout the U.S. it also highlights the issue of race while all the soldiers in the back are white and the model is black. the Background highlights these emotions as all the other soldiers are straight faced and looking forward creating a sense of contrast in the tone and feel of the picture further bringing out the emotions of the model. The point of view is straight on and centered communicating a feel of importance and depth. All of these artistic aspects create a lighthearted and ironic spin on the dark and controversial issues in America at the time.
