MOTION
Fast Shutter Speed
For My balloon pop shot I used a 1/1000 shutter speed in order to capture the split second after the water balloon pops but the water inside maintains the shape of the balloon. Because i had such a fast shutter speed I had to use a fluorescent light to shine directly on the balloon, which meant I had to set my WB to fluorescent light, This couple with an ISO of 6400 allowed for ample light to come into the lens so my subject wasn't too dark. This allowed me to freeze the motion of the water balloon popping creating an interesting and dynamic image. I was about 3 feet away from the subject and a little bit below it (which probably wasn't the best idea as my camera got pretty wet) in order to get light refraction through the balloon and making it more visible. I used the rule of thirds and proper exposure in order to make my subject highly lit and detailed while keeping the background black creating a nice contract between foreground and background.
Slow Shutter Speed
Slow shutter speed allowed for more abstraction and creativity within the shot. With my Slow light moving shot I set my shutter speed to 2.6" in order to capture light and movement while also not allowing any background light to show up. I used auto ISO and WB because of the unique nature of the color changing light source. In order to create blur I had my friend run from one corner of the frame to the other while also running from the background to the foreground creating a sense of not only blur but also depth. my distance was aproximately 10 feet at the start of the picture to one foot by the end of the picture. the point of view was pretty straight forward and was at chest height. there is use of Line and contrast making the focal point stand out, and the background fade away.
PAINTING WITH LIGHT
Steel Wool fireworks
One of my favorite photos from painting with lighti s the ribbon light swirl, it is slightly dimmer than the rest and has an elegant futuristic quality while the fast movments allow for no over exposure but instead a clean view of each individual light that makes up the ribbon. For this Picture I used a shutter speed of 2" to get as much movement as possible without over exposing the picture. For this picuture I used a flash light with five seperate LED lights in it to make a ribbon three dimensional effect while still allowing for each individual light sources path to be shown. To me this is a crisp photo that might make a person feel like their in a eutopian future.
